Strengthening our patent expertise in chemistry and life sciences - welcome, Bora!
We are pleased to welcome Bora Sieng as a European Patent Attorney, Ph.D. at Bryn Aarflot.
Publisert 8. oktober 2026

Bora works with patents at the intersection of advanced chemistry, industrial technology and life sciences, advising Norwegian and international businesses on how to turn technological ideas into robust and commercially relevant patent rights. He has broad experience in organic, inorganic and industrial chemistry, polymer chemistry and chemical engineering, and will strengthen Bryn Aarflot’s capacity in particular within life sciences, biomaterials, cleaner chemical processes and industrial technologies.
As a European Patent Attorney, Bora assists clients throughout the patent process - from patentability assessments, patent landscape analyses and freedom-to-operate analyses to drafting and prosecuting patent applications. He represents clients before the Norwegian Industrial Property Office, the European Patent Office and PCT authorities, and works in Norwegian, English and French.
Bora holds a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of Glasgow and an MSc from ESPCI-PSL in Paris. Before joining Bryn Aarflot, he worked as a patent advisor at Yara International, one of the world’s largest fertiliser companies, where he was responsible for patent portfolios relating to, among other areas, urea production, fertiliser products and biostimulant products. The role gave him substantial experience of IP work in close collaboration with research, manufacturing and commercial teams, including helping colleagues understand how patents and IP can be used actively in innovation processes.
He also brings valuable experience from the start-up Amicoat, which developed new biomaterials - including polymers, foams and metals - containing antimicrobial agents designed to prevent bacterial growth on medical devices, such as catheters, wound care products and prostheses. Bora’s combination of research credentials, in-house industrial experience and experience from a technology-intensive start-up provides him with a strong understanding of the technical, regulatory and commercial realities facing innovative businesses.
Bora has also served as a board member of the Norwegian IP Managers Association (NIP) for three and a half years, contributing valuable insight into the Norwegian IP community and the development of the profession.
– Bora has a profile that is rare in the Norwegian market. He combines a Ph.D. in chemistry and European patent attorney qualifications with hands-on experience from both global industry and a research-intensive start-up. This means that he understands innovation from the inside - from the laboratory and development process to manufacturing, business models and commercialisation. This is highly valuable to our clients, particularly in sectors where technological development moves quickly and patents must support real business decisions, says Sebastian Stigar, CEO and partner at Bryn Aarflot.
– I look forward to becoming part of Bryn Aarflot’s strong professional environment and to assisting businesses that develop new technologies in chemistry, materials technology and life sciences. Good IP advice is not only about obtaining a patent; it is about understanding the technology, the market and the company’s objectives, so that rights can be used actively to create freedom to operate and long-term value, says Bora Sieng.
We are very pleased to have Bora on the Bryn Aarflot team and look forward to drawing on his expertise to strengthen our advice to innovative Norwegian and international businesses.
