Patent attorney Petter von Ubisch will join Bryn Aarflot in mid-February. He is currently on parental leave, dedicating his time fully to his new family before stepping into his role with us. That’s why, in the photo, you won’t see him in a suit in a meeting room, but out on a stroller walk – a temporary yet important role before he starts as a patent attorney here.

Petter holds a Master of Science in Petroleum Engineering from NTNU, specializing in drilling technology. After his studies, he worked as a drilling engineer at Schlumberger, responsible for technical and administrative follow-up of well operations. He has both offshore and onshore experience from Italy, the UK, Saudi Arabia, and Norway, and knows the entire well construction process from drilling and completion to well testing.

Petter has also worked at the Norwegian Industrial Property Office and as a private IP advisor. His portfolio has covered a wide range of technologies within the energy sector, as well as technologies in the maritime industry and construction. His IP expertise includes infringement assessments, freedom-to-operate analyses, patentability evaluations, patent drafting, and patent searches. Through this work, he has gained valuable insight into how established petroleum and energy environments develop new solutions in energy and climate technology, and how IP can be actively used in this value-creating transition.

“Petter combines hands-on field experience with a solid understanding of the patent system and technology development in the energy and offshore industry. That combination is important for many of our clients. We are also pleased that he wants to further develop this expertise with us – the only full-service Norwegian IP firm fully owned by its employees,” says Kristine Aarflot, CEO at Bryn Aarflot.

With us, Petter will work broadly with patent advisory services within oil and gas, offshore, subsea, and adjacent green technologies, in collaboration with both established industrial companies and technology startups. When his parental leave ends in February, we look forward to putting his experience and expertise to work together with our clients.

Welcome to Bryn Aarflot, Petter – and enjoy your parental leave in the meantime!
