Lars Erik Hatlen
Primary expertise
Lars holds extensive experience in general and strategic patents counselling, patents drafting and prosecution, clearance and IP analysis including due diligence and freedom to operate opinions, as well as patent oppositions, administrative review and administrative limitation and revocation proceedings, infringement analyses and proceedings, and advising in patent litigation. He also conducts patent searches. Lars represents clients before the Norwegian Industrial Property Office, the EPO and PCT authorities.
Lars has clients spanning from small Norwegian businesses to large national and international corporations within the oil and gas industry, industrial chemistry, chemical engineering, petrochemistry, pulp and paper technology, agrochemistry, and water and gas purification. He also holds extensive experience in advising businesses and research organisations within various industries.
Lars has also served as a patent expert co-judge at the Oslo District Court and Oslo Appeal Court.
Background
Lars graduated from the Norwegian Institute of Technology (NTH) in 1985 as a M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering. He started as an examiner at the Norwegian Industrial Property Office in 1988. He then joined the IP firm J.K. Thorsens Patentbureau in 1993, and was partner from 1997.
Lars joined Bryn Aarflot in 2010, through the incorporation of J.K. Thorsens Patentbureau in Bryn Aarflot, and has been a partner at Bryn Aarflot since 2010.
