Primary expertise

Kristine Rekdal holds extensive experience in general and strategic patents counselling, patent drafting and prosecution, clearance and IP analysis including due diligence and freedom to operate opinions, as well as patent oppositions, administrative limitation and revocation proceedings, infringement analyses and proceedings, and advising in patent litigation. Kristine also conducts patent searches and patent landscape analysis. Kristine is also experienced in advising within design. She represents clients before the Norwegian Industrial Property Office, the EPO and PCT authorities as well as world-wide patent prosecution.

Kristine has acted as patent expert judge at the Oslo Appeal Court and Oslo District Court. Further, Kristine has been a patent expert witness in court, and she works closely in team with our litigators in patent cases before the courts. She is experienced in representing clients in EPO oppositions and in oral proceedings in examination and opposition before the Opposition Division and EPO Boards of Appeal.

Kristine advises national and international clients within a broad range of technologies, e.g. oil & gas, ICT and AI, physics, biophysics, optics, spectroscopy, electronics, marine technology, aquaculture, green energy and technology, and general mechanics. Kristine has extensive experience in advising start-up businesses and research organizations, as well as large corporations and SMBs.

Background

Kristine holds a MSc in physics from 1994 and started as an examiner at the Norwegian Industrial Property Office in 1995 and became later Head of Section for Electronics/Constructions in the Patent Department. Kristine has also been in charge of database searches for the Patent Department at the Norwegian Industrial Property Office. Kristine has worked as a patent attorney since 1998 and as European Patent Attorney from 2008. She joined Bryn Aarflot in 1998 and was Head of Patent from 2010 to 2021. Kristine has been a partner at the firm since 2005 and a senior partner since 2010 and has a senior position also mentoring colleagues and EQE candidates in the firm.

Publications

Kristine provides lectures in variety of IP related matters, as e.g. patent protection in general, software patents, administrative patent limitation and IP strategy. She has been a tutor for Examiners in the Norwegian Industrial Property Office and also given lectures in updating courses within patent matters for JUS. She has also been the author of a number of articles in international IPR magazines.
