Nikolay Nikolov
Primary expertise
Nikolay holds extensive experience in general and strategic patent counselling, patent drafting and prosecution, patent clearance and IP analyses including due diligence and freedom to operate opinions as well as patent oppositions, administrative limitation and revocation proceedings, patent infringement analyses and proceedings and advising in patent litigation. Nikolay is also experienced in preparation of IP strategies, third party patent monitoring as well as non-disclosure, technology and licensing agreements, and represents clients before the Norwegian Industrial Property Office, the EPO and the PCT authorities. He is also experienced in securing design rights.
His clients span from small- and middle-sized Norwegian companies to large international corporations within the oil & gas, aquafarming technology, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, electronics, renewable energy, medical technology and software industries.
Background
Nikolay graduated in 1996 with a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering. He started his IP career as a Patent Examiner at the Norwegian Industrial Property Office in May 1998. He has also been in charge of Database Searches, and Training therein, for the Patent Department (2001-2002). Nikolay has long experience as a Patent Engineer and Patent Attorney from ABC-patent (now Acapo) and Plougmann & Vingtoft in the period 2002-2009. He has in addition been a Partner and a member of the Company Board in ABC-patent. Nikolay has comprehensive experience from the industry as an IP Advisor in Statoil ASA (now Equinor) in the period 2009-2011. He was responsible for some of the company’s worldwide patent portfolio covering technologies across the oil and gas value chain and worked actively with the preparation of the company’s IP strategies. He was responsible for various IP issues, such as IP capture and management, third party patent monitoring, due diligence, conflict management as well as non-disclosure, technology and licensing agreements.
Nikolay joined Bryn Aarflot AS in 2011, and was made partner in the firm in 2018.
