Primary expertise

Marianne holds extensive experience in general and strategic patents counselling, patent drafting and prosecution, IP analysis including due diligences, clearance and freedom to operate opinions, as well as patent oppositions, administrative limitations and revocation proceedings, infringement analyses and proceedings, and advising in patent litigation. Marianne is also experienced in strategic IP planning and patent portfolio management. In addition, she performs different searches in patent databases, e.g. to identify prior art or third party rights. She represents clients before the Norwegian Industrial Property Office, the EPO and PCT authorities, in addition to acting as primary agent for patent families including other national counterparts.

Her clients span from small startups to large national and international corporations, mainly within life science, chemistry and particularly within fields of organic chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, nutrition, health and pharmaceuticals. Marianne holds extensive experience in advising start-up businesses, research organizations and industry.

Marianne regularly holds lectures related to patent protection and IP strategy, and has written articles related to IPR.

Background

Marianne holds a M.Sc. in chemistry from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) of Trondheim from 1995, specialising in organic chemistry.

She has long experience from the industry, having worked as an in-house patent attorney for about 20 years. Her career started in BASF Norge (1996-1998) as EHS officer, before she joined the pharmaceutical industry and GE Healthcare (1998-2014) where she had responsibility for IP portfolios related to imaging contrast agents, formulations and manufacturing, particularly for ultrasound, MRI and x-ray contrast agents. She also has experience from Pronova BioPharma Norge AS (BASF AS) (2014-2017) where she handled IP portfolios related to fatty acids for use as pharmaceuticals, supplements and nutrients. Working in the industry, she gained extensive knowledge and experience with strategy building and linking IP to business strategies.

Marianne joined Bryn Aarflot in 2017.
