Jon D. Heggstad
Primary expertise
Jon holds extensive experience in general and strategic patents counselling, patent drafting and prosecution, clearance and IP analysis including due diligence and freedom to operate opinions, as well as patent oppositions, administrative limitation and revocation proceedings, infringement analyses and proceedings, and advising in patent litigations. Jon is also experienced in advising within design. He represents clients before the Norwegian Industrial Property Office, the EPO and PCT authorities. Jon has acted as an expert judge in the Norwegian court, has participated in Oral Proceedings at the Norwegian Board of Appeal for Industrial Property Rights, and supported clients in Norwegian court cases.
He advises national and international clients in particular within oil & gas, renewable energy, fish farming, offshore exploration, vessels and general mechanics.
Jon has extensive experience in advising start-up businesses and research organizations.
He gives lectures in patent protection and design registrations in general.
Background
Jon started as an examiner at the Norwegian Industrial Property Office in 1993. He has was also in charge of IP at a Norwegian start-up firm where he worked from 1996 to 1998.
Jon has represented the Norwegian Patent Attorney Association, NPF, as the Norwegian delegate in the Executive Committee of FICPI, and is a member of a FICPI group discussing industrial design issues.
Jon joined Bryn Aarflot in 1998, and has been a partner at the firm since 2005.
